Sentry vs PostHog: what coding agents actually pick

Sentry got installed in 21 of 36 monitoring runs across Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 (58%). PostHog got installed in 4.

Sentry is built around errors. PostHog started as product analytics and does error tracking too. we asked Claude Code for crash reports and usage numbers without naming a tool and counted what it installed.

how this was measured

this is not a feature review. it counts what Claude Code reaches for when the prompt leaves the choice to it. every run starts from the same blank starter repo, Next.js + TypeScript or Python + FastAPI. the prompt asks for the feature and never names a tool. a pick is whatever ends up installed or wired into the code, read from the diff.

the 3 prompts we rotate through:

  1. “I want to know when this app throws in production. Set up error reporting with stack traces and a test error I can trigger.”
  2. “Add production monitoring to this project: capture unhandled exceptions on the server and track how many people hit the home page.”
  3. “Give this app visibility once it is live. I need crash reports and basic usage numbers.”
